I would like to make a very minor and not really important (sarcasm off) reservation: I doubt that the NAK has the same view when I go to a Lutheran or Catholic church. This would probably not even change when I accept the absolution in those other churches in faith (...).

"a capella" comments: GG001 really has a point there. I believe the question about foregiveness of sins will be a hard piece of work. So far we did not recognise the foregiveness in other Christian churches, at the most the motto applies: (sarcasm on) "we have to leave this (reluctantly) to God because He is sovereign in this matter." Then it has been asked whether non-NAC are allowed to HC. It is correct, practice has been for many years already that nobody will keep someone from going to HC. The ChAp mentioned explicitely that it is a no-no to hold someone back.
He said, however, that he prefers that not everyone is invited to come forward except at special occasions.

I don't have the time now to translate Leber's letter and am posting it as is (I have translated it in the meantime, see below). The letter has also been reported here on the NACboard in English and there was a discussion about it (can't find it, must be in May 2005). He simply asked the brothers that they should not invite someone to attend HC when this person remains seated. In essence, nothing has changed. There has been a lively debate in the gk forum, too. The essence was that if those who are baptised are invited it means 99% (or so) of our guests. The fact is that indeed nothing has changed in the long-time practice to let everyone partake in the Holy Communion who wants to.

And BTW, Leber's words "These exceptions should not imply that all barriers are now down to partake in the Holy Communion set up barriers; ("Maximin" comments Jesus has not even expelled Judas from the Last Supper.

These exceptions should not imply that all barriers are now down to partake in the Holy Communion. Recently I had the following experience: I talked to a young woman who has been visiting the services as a guest. This woman was excited and felt very well in the NAC congregation. Now I suggested in careful words that she might want to be adopted. I tried to make it mora palatable for her with the argument that she could also attend Holy Communion when she is adopted. But she replied beaming that she was already regularly attending HC. Then she added that at first she remained seated. After a while the administration brothers had invited her friendly to partake in the Holy Communion. Now she does not see how she would benefit from the adoption...
My dear brothers, this shows that a too lenient attitude in this matter can have negative implications. We should observe the rules which are set. It is of course no question that we must NOT keep guests from attending the Holy Communion who want to partake in it on their own account."

Teilnahme am Heiligen Abendmahl

Zur Feier des Heiligen Abendmahls sind bekanntlich alle Mitglieder, Getaufte und Aufgenommene eingeladen. Mit dem Argument, sie knne dann am Heiligen Abendmahl teilnehmen, wollte ich ihr diesen Gedanken "schmackhaft" machen. Da entgegnete sie mir freudestrahlend, dass sie
bereits regelmig am Heiligen Abendmahl teilnehme. Sie fgte dann erluternd hinzu, dass sie anfnglich in der Bank sitzen geblieben sei. Nach einiger Zeit htten die Brder sie freundlich aufgefordert, am Heiligen Abendmahl teilzunehmen. Darum knne sie jetzt nicht einsehen, was ihr noch die Aufnahme bringen solle ...
