Anglican Church leaders face difficult decisions: women in the bishop ministry and homosexuals in the church. The general synod in York, GB has already voted
on the question of female bishops.
Tue July 8, 2008. The Anglican Church of England wants to lift all restrictions which keep women from holding a bishop ministry. This may cause a schism in the world-wide Anglican Church. 1300 ministers, most of them retired, threatened to leave the Anglican Church if women would be allowed in the bishop ministry without restrictions. Emotional scenes preceded the vote in the general synod of the Church of England, the mother church of the Anglicans. Many supporters welcomed the decision. The Archbishop of Canterbury had much to fear. Some 1,300 clergy threatened to leave the Church over the issue unless "safeguards" against women bishop appointees were introduced. In truth, Williams had little to worry at the voting stage itself, an occasion described by a Times columnist as "Ladies' day at the Church". The decision in the General Synod went in favour of the liberal wing of the Church by a margin of 2 to 1. It took place after six hours of debate, fuelled by the arguments of 72 speakers. More ... Vatican cardinal: Catholic-Anglican dialogue has 'taken a step backwards'
.- Catholic Cardinal Walter Kasper on Wednesday afternoon touched on two of the hot button issues rankling the Anglican Communion of late-women's ordination and sexuality. Due to recent developments, he stated, "dialogue has taken a step backwards" between the two Churches. (...) Walter Cardinal Kasper honors Frere Roger, the founder of the Taize Communaute
It is now three years that Frere Roger has been murdered; he was the founder of the ecumenical Taize community in France which is renown world-wide. Kasper is the president of the Roman Catholic council to promote the unity among Christians and called Frere Roger, whose civilian name was Roger Schutz, his "spiritual father" of the present time. In his interview with the "Osservatore Romano" he emphasised the influence which Frere Roger had on the ecumenical dialogue, referred to the exemplary life which he led, and to the special spirituality which was his trademark. link to CiD article
