from District Rectors' meeting with District Apostle Wagner, 1995:
I can never remember the District Apostle [Kraus] ever saying that you can participate in sports or another worldly activity as long as it does not interfere with church services. And in some regions, some have said that. Brothers, some have said it! You open the doorway to the world. You open the doorway to the world!!! You know what you can be accused of? Misguided teaching! You've taken a liberty which you should not have taken.
Heard of a case where a priest was scheduled in a far away congregation. He left right afterwards when he held the service . He said there's a football game on the way home. I have to get there in time. And they shall bring souls in, and nurture souls and perfect them until the day of the first resurrection?
We've been around, too. We've been in business. We are in business. We watched to what we joined, and what we are associated with, and what we are a part of. Nobody can tell us that what you have to do in business to stay in business. Nobody can tell us that. That we have to belong to this, or that, or the other. WE belong to the fellowship of our heavenly Father. WE bring our offerings. And all of those who belong to those associations and clubs, to the sports associations -- our competitors - they're all long gone. They're long since gone and we're still here.
Don't think that that secures you the blessing. It does not. Maybe it secures the benefit for those that are in the world. But, we're not in the world. We're not of the world. We're in it. But, we're not of it. That is where you put your faith on the line. His words, that of the old apostle still stand, "Fellowship with the world is enmity with god." And that still stands!
And if somebody didn't preach it, it's because they never had the GUTS to preach it! They never had the courage to say it. They wanted to be everybody's good buddy and say, "Oh, just do what you want. Everybody's fine." It doesn't work that way. What does it say about the watchmen on the walls of Zion? It says, "They will not keep their peace day and night." In plain words, you cannot shut them up! That's how we must be, too. But, we have to show the young people that. We have to teach that. Not just say nothing and then once in awhile come and raise the rafters in the church and think we have done something we haven't.
