A quick and hopefully helpful guide showing how to reply line-by-line (or paragraph by paragraph) in lengthy posts. I'm assuming that your Preferences
are set to display responses in WYSIWYG format. Don't know how to change your preferences? Just ask.
So you've come across a post you want to reply to, and you hit the "Quote" button. You get a screen that gives you something like this (yes,
it's a little bit smaller than actual size, Virginia):
You've typed your pithy response, and you get something that looks like this in your browser:

Hi. This is a test post in the test forum. Got it?
Yeah, we got it, pal.

See? It's very easy to post a response to one line or one paragraph, just make sure you place your cursor below the "quote box" before typing your response, otherwise your comments will merge with the person you're replying to, and no one will know who said what anymore.
When responding line by line or paragraph by paragraph, there are two ways you can do it - each method has its proponents, and no one way is really "better" than the other, because it's a PITA no matter how you do it. Really, I know. The Yuku post editor is anemic at best, but you can bend it to your will with some practice.
First Method: Instead of hitting the "Quote" button, hit the "Reply" button in the bottom right of the post you wish to respond to. This will bring up a blank post editor. Now, scroll down to the post you want to reply to, select the line(s) or paragraph(s) you wish to reply to, hit "CTRL-C", scroll back up to the editor window, and hit "CTRL-V". This will dump the text into your editor in one or more blocks. It is now your responsibility to ensure that attributions are tagged and entered correctly. I'll grab a bunch of text from a random quote somewhere on the board, show you what it will look like, and how you should tag it to keep the attributions:
To attribute the post correctly, before typing in your response, add the "quote" tags to the text (called "wrapping" the text). Once you've got the attributions in, you'll be able to see where you can respond. So, to respond to both paragraphs at once, wrap the quote tags like this:
This will make the post format like this:

I could be wrong, but I think this phrase simply means that the Rector is in charge of ("principal" being taken to mean "primary") the records, paperwork, and other operational things (making sure the building has adequate stocks of communion, lightbulbs, toilet paper, etc.) for the congregation. It does not imply a clerical duty (though many Rectors I know take this upon themselves), it simply means he is responsible to make sure that the records are correctly kept and that the congregation has what it needs to operate.
If the Rector were "cooking the books," embezzling funds, or committing fraud of some kind, or was aware that such a thing were taking place, then I would think that he would be personally liable for it.
I think you're nuts. Really.

To respond to each paragraph separately, or even to each line, you simply wrap each individual paragraph in "quote" tags, like so:
Your post should look like this now:

Are you for real? I can't believe you'd say this!

I think you need professional help. Really.

It works the same way whether you want to respond to entire paragraphs, a single line, or even just a few words. As long as you wrap the text in "quote tags", the attributions should format properly. I'll show how to do some more complicated tagging below, where there might be multiple responses in your reply that need to be attributed properly.
That's all there is to it for the First Method. Remember - it's always better to wrap your tags around the text you want to quote BEFORE you add your comments. It helps to keep the attributions from getting lost or screwed up. If you post your response and something doesn't look right - like one or more boxes of quoted text are running into your responses - you probably forgot to insert a tag. Edit your post, and make sure you have opening and closing tags on each line or paragraph. Read Yuku's BB Code Help page to see how "open" and "close" quote tags should look. There's also other tags there that you can use to format your posts, such as bolding, underlining, etc. As always, the key to posting proficiency is practice, practice, practice.
The Second Method will follow in a post below this one.
